What is a favorite or traditional food that your family serves at Christmas? Lefse! I have many good memories of making it when I was a kid with my mom, dad and brother. Many of my cousins still make it with their kids. My aunts and uncles love Lutefisk but I'll pass. Once we flew to Arizona for Christmas and my mom packed a few frozen pounds of it to take with on the airplane. Thank God the suitcase didn't get lost. It smells bad enough when it's 'fresh'!
What is the most memorable Christmas gift you received as a child? When we were kids, we would get one 'big' gift that my brother and I had to share (BB gun, a tent). The first big gift that I didn't have to 'share' with him was a telescope when I was about 12.
What kind of Christmas Tree do you prefer? We had fake trees for the most part growing up. The first real one was a big deal. We cut it down at the neighbors house. Don't worry, they gave us the OK.
What is your favorite Christmas Carol? When I was a kid it was a toss up between Silent Night and Joy to the World. Now I'd have to say O Holy Night
What is a favorite Christmas memory from your childhood? Family gatherings. My uncle Gary who had Down Syndrome would always come stay with us for Christmas vacation. We had such a blast with him. On Christmas Eve, we would gather with my dad's family for a candlelight service at church, dinner and then gift opening. Dinner was torture because the adults always insisted that the dishes get done first. Of course, it was the china and crystal so hand washing only. Christmas Day we would get together with my mom's family - all the aunts and uncles and cousins. My mom comes from a family of 8 and we all had pretty modest houses. The ladies all gabbed in the kitchen, the guys played poker in the basement and the kids (at a peak probably 15 of us) where totally unattended all night. The party usually broke up somewhere between 3 and 5 am. It was great!
What is your favorite Christmas movie? A Christmas Story...you'll shoot your eye out!
