Prayer and Entering the Classroom of Silence
"The beginning of prayer is silence. If we really want to pray we must first learn to listen, for in the silence of the heart God speaks. And to be able to see that silence, to be able to hear God we need a clean heart; for a clean heart can see God, can hear God, can listen to God; and then only from the fullness of our heart can we speak to God. But we cannot speak unless we have listened, unless we have made that connection with God in the silence of our heart." Saint Mother Tersa of Calcutta
There was a priest who told a story of visiting a kindergarten class. He asked the young students what we must remember to do when we pray. A number of the children raised their hands. He called on the first child who said that first you must be very quiet. The next classmate said that you must be very still.
Believing that he might have received all of the best answers, Father cautiously called on a third child who added: "Then we climb up on Jesus' lap and place our ear to his mouth so that we can hear Him whisper to us..."
Your desire to pray is a sign that is God already working and moving within you. Below are some resources to help you in your journey. The staff at St. Pius X is humbled and grateful to walk with you in faith.
Please reach out if you'd like someone to pray with you or offer some insight on your journey with God, a God who loves you immensely.
"Every one of us needs a half an hour of prayer each day, except when we are busy – then we need an hour." Saint Francis de Sales
