Family Formation at St. Pius X
Q&A: Commonly asked questions and answers!
We are excited to offer Family Formation (K-6) where the parents are given the tools needed to the primary catechist of their own children.
Once a month, we welcome the whole family to come to this family-based program, which included gathering with fellow parishioners.
The gathering day at the parish for 2023-2024 will be on the First Sunday of each month, following the 9:30 am Mass, from 10:30 -11:45 am. Following Mass, families will enjoy hospitality and a donut. Then K-6 grade children will meet in the cafeteria for faith-based activities.
The adult session, will include Fr. T.J. teaching and leading a discussion. Each month, information will be introduced on the topics that parents will be teaching their children at home for the rest of the month.
We will use Sophia's Institute A Family of Faith curriculum program, which includes simple weekly at home lessons and activities for the family to complete with their K-6 grade children.
We're very family-friendly and are delighted to offer a nursery during the adult sessions for children under 5 years old.
It's exciting to journey together in faith as a parish family!
"Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child's earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents."
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2226)
The parish is a privileged place of the formation of faith for each individual. We are committed to assisting parents, who are the primary educators of their children.
If your child has not yet received the Sacrament of Baptism or if your child is third grade or older and has not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation or Holy Communion for the first time, please see contact a member of Faith Formation team.
"For man is the image of God. When we teach our children to be good, to be gentle, and to be forgiving – all attributes of God; to be generous, to love their neighbor, to regard this present age as nothing, we instill virtue in their souls, and reveal the image of God within them. This, then, is our task: to educate both ourselves and our children in godliness; otherwise what answer will we have before Christ’s judgment seat?" -- Saint John Chyrsostom
