Annual Events Calendar - High School

St. Pius provides many opportunities for high school students to deepen their relationship with Christ, strengthen their relationships with other Catholic teens and serve the community. See the Current Events page for a list of upcoming activities.

Mandaree, N.D. Mission Trip

High School students, college students and adults form a team of 20 – 25 to coordinate one week of CLC – Christian Life Camp for Fr. Steven Kranz at St. Anthony Catholic Church on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation. Missionaries plan and facilitate a live-in camp for 5th – 7th grade students of the Mandan, Arikara and Hidatsa Nation.  Students and adults benefit by developing long – term relationships with the children and families of northwest North Dakota and experience immersion into the traditions and trials that make up modern Native America.  Our parish team has returned annually for camp and other tribal events since 1996. CLC Mission is “the hardest week you’ll ever love.”

New camp counselors must apply in the spring and meet monthly with the team until camp, usually the third full week in July from a Saturday to a Saturday.

Steubie North

A Steubenville Youth Conference is an invitation to spiritual growth. From some this means entering into a personal relationship with God for the first time. For others, this means a deeper and more mature acceptance of the gospel and the Church and a greater zeal to be a witness for Christ.

The conference weekend is about developing the gifts given at Baptism and sealed at Confirmation. It’s about hearing dynamic speakers instruct and challenge teens in: prayer, chastity, service, and the power of the sacraments. You will discover that Christianity is not for the weak and timid; it is not a crutch; and it is not boring! It is about meeting hundreds of people on fire for the Lord: laughing, crying, talking, singing, praying, dancing and being encouraged to take a stand for Christ.

St. Pius students travel north the day before Steubie to Birch Bay Lodge in outing, MN to spiritually and relationally prepare for the experience. Stuebie North is typically held the last weekend in July or the first weekend in August.

Teen Life in the Spirit Retreat

This retreat uses an adult and student team from the participating parishes combining talks, praise music, skits, games, and small group discussion to allow students and adults to reflect upon God's love, salvation, sin and reconciliation, Holy Mass, personal and communal prayer, the Holy Spirit's outward signs and gifts, and bringing the holiness home. This retreat includes an evening of spiritual empowerment using trained pastoral prayer teams from various parishes and the power of Christ in adoration and the Sacraments.

Students who have been confirmed are encouraged to continue to be a part of this powerful experience with God as a staff member.  Teen Life in the Spirit is typically held in early December. Contact Laura for training dates for leaders and volunteers.

The Hunger for Catholic Missions

The Hunger is a 30 hour fast for middle and high school students. Students will be educated about poverty and justice issues, develop awareness about the needs of those in crisis here and abroad and serve the local community.  It is also an opportunity to raise financial & prayer support for mission work.

The Hunger is typically held the 2nd weekend in March (Friday night and all day Saturday).

March for Life – Washington DC

Gather with high school and college age students from around the United States at the annual Students for Life of America Conference and March for Life in Washington, D.C.  Make a difference and learn how to defend your rights to free speech, truth and health in your school and community. The trip is held in conjunction with the National March for Life in January. Learn more about Students for Life on their web site.

SummerBLAST

Summer BLAST or Believers Learning and Serving Together, is a week -long service learning day camp for middle school students under the guidance of high school leaders. Every second week of July, from Monday – Friday, students gather for big group opener, small group Bible study, two hours of service outreach for twelve community service agencies, and fellowship at local waterparks and youth activity sites.   High School students apply for selection in May to lead the small groups during BLAST.

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Vacation Bible School is offered for one week in the summer, typically late June. It is for children pre-school (3 & 4 yrs) to 4th grade. There are skits, crafts, Bible stories and snacks! Students in Grades 5-12 are encouraged to volunteer during the week.  All youth volunteers (under 18) must fill out a Volunteer Registration Form and submit three letters of recommendation. The Letter of Recommendation forms can be picked up in the Faith Formation Office.
